Fashion / Beauty Blogger for a Day

September 4, 2010 / Daily Life / 11 Comments

I don’t write about fashion or makeup but just thought I’d do a post just for fun! Now, I’m not really into fashion, I have never bought a fashion magazine in my entire life and I certainly don’t know my Diane von Furtenbergs from my Roberto Cavallis. As for beauty products, I only used make-up because I grew very self-conscious about my eyelids while I was in college. Contrary to the typical Asian single-eyelid dilemma, I have multiple eyelids.

You get the point, I’m not really into this fashion / beauty stuff. I don’t know how to take full-boded self-shots (as you shall see from my awkward outfit shot later). I don’t consider myself to be trendy but I think I have my own distinct style and I try to dress appropriately for my body type. (Sorry, but I’m no size 0 and I’m also fairly short.)

Anyway, here goes my fashion / beauty entry. :D

The Outfit

My Outfit

I’m usually practical shopper. My wardrobe is neatly divided into a ratio of 5 work clothes : 2 casual clothes. But occasionally, I do fall into temptation and buy stuff I don’t know when or where I can wear it to — and this outfit is definitely one of them! It’s probably good for parties or clubbing, neither which I do much of, since I’ve overdosed on that as a teenager. I really, really like this outfit though so I’m gonna have to find an occasion to wear it. :)

  • Sheer Mesh Yoke Dress from Forever 21, Spring/Summer 2010 collection
  • Short Knitted Cardigan from Promod, Fall/Winter 2010 collection
  • Booties from cotton.amour, a boutique at Orchard Central, Singapore. They order their stuff from Hong Kong and bring in very few pieces of anything. I had to book these a week in advance to get them.

The (Incomplete) Makeup

Eye and Nose Makeup

After I took the photo I realized I forgot to do my lips since I usually don’t. (Beauty blogger fail!) This eye make-up is quite a bit heavier than what I normally wear, but beauty bloggers and makeup artists would probably beg to differ. I used 3 shades of eyeshadow, a pencil eyeliner and a bit of mascara to get the eye effect. I have naturally thick eyebrows so I’ve never done anything to my brows before.

I also tried to contour my nose. I have the unfortunate ugly, round, flat Asian nose. I used some bronzer and highlighter to make it look sharper.

The Make-up Technique…

…not! I’m way too lazy and unskilled to show you a step-by-step so I’ll just leave that kinda stuff to the pros like Michelle Phan. So this brings us to the end of my foray into fashion and beauty blogging. Hah! :D

Dear Readers, what kind of shopper are you? What style do you think you have? Are you a make-up person? Why or why not?

Good post mah! Do more! :p

    Answering your qns…

    Practical but impulse shopper.
No style is my style. Tshirts are my daily best friends.
Hates make up cos I hate process of removing it thoroughly. But I fully concur that with the right make up, it’ll totally change the person’s confidence and look.

I love this post! You should do more of these :-) I especially love your shoes, they’re cute. Too bad they’re so hard to find :-(

I’m into fashion and beauty and I would call myself an impulse shopper. I’m not too obsessed about it though! I would easily walk out the house in jeans, t shirt and no make up!

    oooh, nice shoes! And dress!

I definitely have my own unique style as well. I’ll wear crazy stuff to work. I didn’t at first, because we were told to dress business casual, but almost everyone wears jeans. I’ll usually wear a dress and a bright pair of crazy tights or jeans and a funky shirt. My style goes well with my crazy office: http://www.silvercpu.com/gallery/00-single/house-and-office-029.jpg. They tend to keep the fun people around. I’ve found it’s better to be liked there than to be talented. If you’re liked, people think you’re talented.

I think you look nice! I don’t think I’ll ever get into beauty/fashion/make-up. I just can’t be arsed to keep up with my appearance . . . I prefer the low maintenance lifestyle of shower, comb my hair, and wear clothes, and BAM. Done :D

Love your looks, Ivy! I need to learn from you and only buy stuff that I actually need and won’t only wear once.

As I mentioned before on my Facebook comment, I really like the shoes. This also appears to be a slight deviation from your all-black wardrobe that I remember oh-so-well. The tan cardigan softens the entire look, and I love the pattern on it.

I miss our shopping trips, dude! Must. Re-live.

  7. Caity says:

I enjoyed this post! I think you should do more of them! That cardigan and dress look awesome together!

  8. Minmin says:

Love the shoes!!! I’m the sort of … in-the-mood shopper. I either buy tons of things together or I hate shopping altogether. Definitely want to see more of these posts!

  9. Marina says:

I love your cardigans. Most of mine are plain solid colours. I love how yours has some some designs on it ((: And and you’re really pretty!

  10. cherlynn says:

awesome post ivy! I love your eyes so much and those shoes were totally gorgeous. Though I really really absolutely adore shopping for clothes and also using makeup, I’ve never done a post like this before (I think). I might take your cue and do something like this some time.. soon.. haha

i love the fact that you used 3 shades of eyeshadow and still think it was rather light lol. I rarely use eyeshadow anymore, but that’s probably thanks to my eyes being totally unsculptable more than anything else. =D

Hmmm. I love your shoes! I may get it on next FF :3
