My friend changed to a Mac a few years ago and he didn't even flinch when Windows Vista was announced, heh! I heard that overheating occurs because the cord is being over-twisted (is there such a word anyway?) and so it just heats up to an extent that melts the casing. Nonetheless, it's great that Apple had chose to replace your adapter for free! Happy new year Ivy!
