Greeting Cards, Post Cards and Thank Yous!

It’s mid-January so I really hope everyone has received the Christmas postcards I sent in early December by now. I had a ton of fun conceptualizing a design for it, scavenging for a fast printer and writing personalized messages on the cards. Sorry if my writing was illegible. It took me many days and whole lot of effort to personalize those 50+ cards.

How to Design Postcards

Some people asked me how I designed them. Postcards are actually quite simple to design. I selected the Photoshop preset “Photo > Landscape 4 x 6″ as the canvas. Left some space on the edges so that my design wouldn’t bleed off the sides when printed. To make sure my postcard was recognizably “nanyate”, I manipulated the nanyate lantern into some Christmas ornaments and made sure any text used Georgia, and voila!

Alternatively, you can skip that whole paragraph and just download my postcard template in PSD format.

Almost forgot, but I also rounded the corners from two sides of the postcard to give it a friendlier look. Special thanks for Claudia for the inspiration. I really liked that her business cards had rounded corners. You can buy these rounded corner clippers at the local bookstore, by the way.

Thank You for Your Cards!

I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who sent me cards. Giving cards are already a joy but finding a handwritten card within a myriad of bills and flyers really made my month. These cards serve as a reminder that we’re not just paragraphs of text and 100×100 avatars on rectangular screens, but real people with emotions, desires and opinions.

Christmas Cards for You!

Christmas is around the corner again (and so is my birthday). As with last year, I’m gonna be mailing out Christmas cards again!

I’ve been thinking of designing my own cards this time round, but I don’t really know where to print ‘em and the logistics involved yet. Will try to make that happen. ~~If I can’t make it on time, it’ll still be a snail mail card embellished with my illegible handwriting.~~ Edit: Just received my self-designed cards! Not perfect since this is my first try at designing my cards. Nevertheless, a lot of time, effort and money was put into it so I hope you’ll enjoy it.

There’s just something warm and fuzzy about receiving a tangible piece of paper instead of its cold, unfeeling electronic counterpart, don’t you think?

Christmas Cards

Sorry for not blogging. I’ve had a beyond shitty week, from waking up at 4AM for work to even waging war with my Delifrance Egg Mayo Baguette (which I will leave for another entry). So shitty I was contemplating to gulp down a jug of Tiger Beer during dinner, which I later settled for a lychee smoothie instead.

To celebrate my birthday (Dec 19), Christmas and even Nanyate?!’s 1st anniversary (Dec 20), I am going to send Christmas cards to the first 5 people, who email me with their (real) names and mailing address. People I know offline don’t count.

Ideally, I’d like to send a card to all my regular commenters, but I haven’t found much time to even write Christmas cards to my offline buddies. Such is the life of a salaryman. Except that I’m not a man, and I am actually pursuing my ambitions.

Yups, that’s it for this badly-written and structured entry. I have another 2 days of shittiness to endure.
